We use the sandbox to develop, test, and simulate the deployment of our customization. Salesforce has a different Sandbox type Partial Data Sandbox is one of them. This Sandbox type is available in Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited editions.
This Sandbox includes all of your organization’s metadata and adds a selected amount of your production organization’s data that you define using a sandbox template. A Partial Data sandbox is a Developer sandbox plus the data you define in a Sandbox Template. It includes the reports, dashboards, price books, products, apps, and customizations under Setup (including all of your metadata).
Define Sandbox Templates for Partial Data Sandbox
Sandbox data templates allow you to pick specific objects and data to copy to your Full or Partial Data sandbox so you can control the size and content of each sandbox. Sandbox data templates are only available for use with Full or Partial Data sandboxes. When you create a sandbox data template, you select the object data (standard and custom) to copy.
To define the Sandbox template follow the instructions below:
- Click on Setup | Environments | Sandboxes
- Click on the Sandbox Templates tab
- Click on New Sandbox Template, It will redirect you to a new page where you have to enter Name, Description for Sandbox template and select objects (By Selecting check-box for each object) as per your requirement.
- Once you’re done, click on Save.
Note:- Partial Data sandboxes can include your organization’s standard and custom object records, documents, and attachments up to 5 GB of data and a maximum of 10,000 records per selected object. A Partial Data sandbox is smaller than a Full sandbox and has a shorter refresh interval. You can refresh a Partial Data Sandbox every 5 days.
Create a Partial Data Sandbox
To create a Partial Data sandbox follow the instructions below:
- Click on Setup | Environments | Sandboxes
- Click on Sandboxes Tab and then click on the New Sandbox button

- The next step is to select the Sandbox template you can use the same template that we have created a few steps back
- Once ready, click on Create.
Proof of Concept
Within an hour or so, the Partial Data sandbox will be ready to use.
Note:- Any time you can delete the Sandbox template, but if it’s currently used by some sandboxes then you cannot delete it.
