AI Photo Automation from a Flow

AI Photo Automation from a Flow

Last Updated on February 5, 2025 by Rakesh Gupta

Artificial intelligence has inserted itself into so many facets of Salesforce capabilities that it seems like the possibilities have to run out eventually, only that hasn’t happened yet. SharinPix, the Salesforce AppExchange partner, brings more than 30 lightning components to your Salesforce implementation, allowing you to unlock virtually any visual use case, from displaying an image in a record to creating 3D model floor plans by simply using your phone to scan a room, has entered the race.

SharinPix has brought the power of AI to its already high-performing and intuitive image-based features for Salesforce. Their new global AI offer covers several elements of image processing, including text extraction, status check, and the ability to count items accurately within a photo.

Let’s take a look at an example of how AI image processing can work in a flow.

Automotive Inspection Use Case from a Flow

Extracting the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is a critical part of vehicle inspections, especially in industries like automotive services, insurance, and fleet management. Traditionally, this process involves manually reviewing photos of vehicles and typing the VIN into a system – a repetitive and error-prone task. SharinPix changes the game by automating this workflow.

With SharinPix integrated into Salesforce, users can take a photo of the VIN plate, upload it, and let AI handle the rest. Within seconds, the VIN is extracted and saved directly into the record, eliminating manual data entry and ensuring accuracy.

The process of extracting a VIN with SharinPix is simple yet powerful. Here’s how it is achieved with a simple Salesforce Flow:

  1. You can have a Salesforce action that opens a Screen Flow
  2. Using SharinPix’s ready-to-use lightning components, which allows you to capture a photo and return the photo URL to the flow seamlessly (you can also crop, annotate, and rotate the photo taken directly from the lightning components)
  3. The URL is passed to another APEX action, which is already provided in the package, which takes a prompt plus the URL of the photo and calls OpenAI API to get the desired result (the reading of the VIN)
  4. Parsing the AI response in a flow can be difficult, but rest assured, SharinPix has designed an APEX action to do so. Parse the results into flow variables
  5. Use the flow variables (in our case, the VIN or license plate) to assign to some fields on your records and finish the flow

The SharinPix Lightning components are designed to work seamlessly across Salesforce records and platforms, whether on desktop or mobile. Powered by AI, it enables your field agents or back-office staff to not only capture, upload, and annotate images effortlessly but also process them intelligently. Whether extracting the VIN from a car’s photo or identifying other critical details, the AI ensures accurate and efficient data extraction, regardless of the device or location.

In the video below, you’ll see how SharinPix simplifies VIN extraction during vehicle inspections. A field employee captures the VIN using their mobile device and uploads the photo. The AI processes the image within seconds and saves the VIN directly into Salesforce. This real-world example demonstrates the power of SharinPix in improving efficiency and accuracy for automotive businesses.

As you can see in the video, the capture and recording of the VIN to Salesforce only takes about 10 seconds. This time savings can be estimated at 50% to 75% faster than typing the VIN out manually. And there’s no human error or need to double or triple-check.

This exact procedure could be incorporated into a greater flow that includes the complete vehicle inspection from a flow, including all data and image capture from a mobile device in the field. To show what that might look like, take a look at this video:

What other Use Cases can Benefit from AI Image Processing in Salesforce?

The automotive use case may be far from your business, and you may not need to extract simple text from a photo. An image inside your Salesforce can be used to gain easy access to other information, such as status conditions.

In quality control checks, say in a restaurant, you can use the same AI to understand whether an area of the kitchen or dining area meets the qualification of “Clean.” At once, you can have your images as proof in your restaurant inspection record while getting automatic notifications if one or more areas need further attention if some table or workstation is understood as disorderly to the AI.

Another example is in the retail field, where you’ll be able to use AI-powered components to count and verify placements of a sales display. In the video below, you can see an example of exactly this, where a store employee takes photos of specific displays in their store from a predefined checklist. In a key area, the AI tool counts the number of shelf placements for hats and bags to ensure they were displayed correctly for that week’s promotions. This automation concludes with an AI-generated summary of the inspection.

SharinPix AI Magic Fill: Now Available as a Standalone Component

On top of SharinPix’s AI Photo Automation capabilities, their new feature, AI Magic Fill, is now available as a stand-alone component, offering even more flexibility for field data collection. This powerful feature uses advanced image processing technology to automatically capture and extract essential information from any photo and seamlessly populate Salesforce fields. Whether it’s barcode, tag, text, numbers, or other types of data, Magic Fill can intelligently process multiple inputs from a single image and organize them into separate fields, streamlining the entire data entry process.

AI Magic Fill goes beyond simple recognition by being completely aware of the context given by the Salesforce admin. If a field user captures the wrong image—say, mistaking a water meter for an electricity meter—the system will instantly detect the error and prompt the user with a helpful warning. Additionally, if the image quality is poor, the AI will guide the user to retake the photo for clearer, more accurate data.

Salesforce administrators will find Magic Fill easy to set up: simply define what data needs to be captured, and the system handles the rest. As a stand-alone component, AI Magic Fill offers seamless integration into any Salesforce workflow, empowering field teams and administrators alike to enhance data accuracy and reduce manual entry errors.
