Now you can able to hide unused report types in Salesforce. It is one of the fantastic features because it’s giving you a way by which you can hide report type that is currently not in use.
Business Use case
In past, due to some business requirement, you created one custom report type, but now you don’t want to allow your users to create reports for that report type. So one option is to delete that custom report type but when you delete the custom report type any reports based on it are also deleted. Any dashboard components created from a report based on a deleted custom report type display an error message when viewed.
Configure Hide Unused Report Types
This feature is available in Developer, Performance, Enterprise, Professional, Contact Manager, Group and Unlimited editions except for Database.com. Perform the below steps
- Click on the Report Tab in Salesforce.
Reports Tab - Click on the New Report button as shown below image.
New Report button - It will redirect you to Create New Report page then select the Select Report Types to Hide check box.
Select Report Types to Hide - Click on plus sign expand, the green check(✔) mark next to a report type means it’s visible to everyone.
- Click the checkmark to change it to an X and hide that report type.
- Here I hide the Account History and Contact History Report type.

- Here I hide the Account History and Contact History Report type.
- Once done, click on the Report tab to go back.
Proof of Concept
- Go to the Report tab, then click on the New Report button.
- Users can only select unhidden report types, if they don’t have Manage Custom Reports user permission they can’t able to see hidden report types.

We’ve gone ahead and hidden report types we don’t want our users to use, but now we’ve found that you can change the report to a Joined report and see all of the hidden report types. Is there any workaround to this?
Report and Report type are two different things. As soon as you hide report type user will not able to see those hidden report types. Actually I didn’t get your question could you please explain it again.

We’ve hidden our Report Types so if a user goes to create a new report they can only see the Report Types that we haven’t hidden.
It seems there is a workaround to this, though, because if that user goes ahead and creates a new report, changes the report from Tabular to Joined (next to Preview), when they click on “Add Report Type” in their Joined report it shows them all of the Report Types including the ones I’ve hidden.

Yes you are right,I think this is a bug or may be something else.
I will suggest you to raise a ticket with Salesforce.com support asap.
Thanks, Rakesh. I logged a ticket and it turns out that this is only a workaround for system administrators. The report types are hidden from end users when they try to add a report type to a joined report.

You can’t move standard Reports from one folder to another folder, but you can move custom Reports from one folder to another folder. Let me know what you are looking for
